7-28-10  Wow!  We may have set a new time record today for the longest round – 5 hrs & 20 mins.  Today’s weather might have contributed to the slow play – it was very warm and humid.  Anyway, thanks to everyone that played and stayed for the results at the end of play.  Participation in the Interclub Tournaments earns you points toward qualification in the end-of-year Tin Cup Tournament on Oct 11 & 12.  I will send out a separate email updating the Tin Cup point standings.

There were 65 players (35 players from SBR and 30 players from Hurricane Creek) in the field today.  The tournament included two formats – Match Play and Team Play.  The Match Play was limited to ten 2-man teams (5 teams from each club) in a winner take-all competition.  The balance of the field played in the Team Play, 4-man team using 2 low net scores on each hole.

Next week’s Tournaments

Next week tournament we have two tournaments on the schedule.  On Wednesday, Aug 4, is our regular weekday tournament.  The format is an individual Low Net score, A, B, C, D handicap flights.  Then on Thursday, Aug 5, is the RLGA/SMGA Play Day.  The format will be 4-person team two low net scores.  On Thursday, lunch will be available for the small cost of $11.  Sign up for both tournaments in the Green SMGA binder in the Pro Shop.

Next Interclub Tournament

The next Interclub Tournament will be on Wednesday, August 18, at home (here).  The tournament will have an 8:30 am shotgun start time.  The tournament format will be same as today – Match Play (limited to 10 players as 2-man teams from each club), and Team Play (4-man team, ABCD pairings, 2 low net scores on each hole).  The cost will be $32 and includes tournament fee, cart rental, donuts, and lunch.  The deadline for the Tournament sign up is Monday, Aug 16, at noon.  However, I will be putting together the Match Play teams on Sunday, Aug 15, based on sign ups as of noon on Sunday.  Let’s support our Interclub efforts.  Remember participation in the Interclub Tournaments earns you points toward playing in the Tin Cup Tournament at the end of the year. There are only 3 interclub tournaments left to earn points toward the Tin Cup.

Match Play Results:

The Match Play competition was won by SBR SMGA using a score card playoff.  SBR SMGA won two matches – 5&4, and 4&3.  Hurricane Creek won two matches – 4&3 and 1 up.  One match was declared a tie.  Match Play is always a lot of fun and sometimes very intense.  Both clubs should be congratulated – well done!
