9-2-09  Gentlemen,

Wow! Today was a great day for golf, beautiful weather, comfortable temperatures with some low scores recorded.

Today’s pace of play was affected by a number of problems with golf carts that ran out of power and had to be replaced on the course. These problems are time consuming and not the fault of our golfers. All we can do as golfers to ensure a reasonable pace of play is to play Ready Golf and Keep up with the foursome in front.

The course maintenance staff and Golf Committee extend their Thank You for repairing ball marks on the greens. Keep up the good work and keep looking for those ball marks to repair.

Upcoming Tournaments:

Next week’s tournament is ‘Lonely Senior’ tournament, 4-man team event, ABCD pairings. Team gross scores will be used. The 4-man team will play a scramble on handicap holes 1 & 2 – one team gross score will be posted on these two holes. On all other holes 3 of the players will play a 3-man scramble and one player (the ‘Lonely Senior’) will play and gross scores from the 3-man team and the Lonely Senior will be posted on each hole. The ‘A’ player on the team will be Lonely Senior on handicap holes 3-4-5-6. The ‘B’ player will be the ‘Lonely Senior’ on handicap holes 7-8-9-10, the ‘C’ player is ‘Lonely Senior’ on handicap holes 11-12-13-14, and the ‘D’ player is ‘Lonely Senior’ on handicap holes 15-16-17-18. Look at your score card for the handicap rating of each hole to determine who the ‘Lonely Senior’ is for that hole.

On Sept 15th (Tuesday), we have an Interclub Tournament with Eldorado CC at Eldorado (good preparation for the Tin Cup tournament in October) – Sign up deadline for the Interclub is Sunday (Sept 13) at Noon. On Sept 16th, the tournament format is 4-man team Shamble, followed by an individual Low Net formant for the Sept 23rd tournament. September is a busy month ending with the 2-day SMGA Championship tournament on Sept 31 (Wednesday) & Oct 1 (Thursday).

Don’t forget to sign up for next week’s tournament and all remaining Sept tournaments in the SMGA Green Binder by Monday at 5:00 PM in the Hills Course Pro Shop.

SMGA Business:

DUES - Ken Carithers, SMGA Treasurer, will begin accepting money for SMGA 2009-2010 dues next week. Either cash or a check (made out to SMGA) will be accepted. The dues remain $25, which is a real bargain considering that the dues have not been increased in many years. I joined the SMGA in 2004 and the dues were $25 at that time. So pay your dues now before they increase. Beginning in October, you will not be able to play in a regular SMGA Wednesday Tournament or an Interclub tournament until your dues are paid. You have a month to pay your dues before the start of the next SMGA year.

General Meeting – Our General Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday September 23 at 7:30 AM. New officers for next year will be elected and the continuation of the Gold Tee Program will be voted upon. Please show you support for SMGA by attending this very important meeting.
