4-8-09 Gentlemen, This was another glorious day in North Texas – pity those poor northern folks who are just now thinking about getting their golf clubs ready for the season. We are indeed the lucky ones. Match Play Championship Sign up for the Match Play ends on Friday, April 10 with competition beginning on April 13. Check website, www.smgahills.com, for details. We would like to get a full field of players (64). We currently have 61 players. So if you haven’t sign up as yet, please do so soon. SMGA / RLGA Play Day The first scheduled play day with the RLGA is Wednesday, April 22 and is hosted by you, the SMGA. We would like to get a lot of participation by both groups. Last year, we had around 80 players. So if your wife is a member of the RLGA, encourage her to sign up for the Play Day and to get her friends to sign up as well. Lunch will be available after the tournament in the dinning room. Hamburger / Chicken sandwiches or Salad Bar will be available for $8.21 per person (price includes tip & taxes). Note the lunch has been renegotiated and this is a price reduction from original price, so take advantage of this option. The cost will be billed to your club member account. The lunch is optional. When you sign up, indicate your choice of lunch (N for no lunch, B for hamburger, C for Chicken or S for Salad Bar) on the sign up sheet. On the day of the Tournament and upon check-in, Stan Chavez will provide to you a ticket indicating your luncheon choice. As we did in December, use the ticket to obtain your lunch. Water, Ice Tea or coffee will be provided at no extra cost. Any other drinks will be added charge. Interclub Tournaments with Prestonwood CC The second interclub tournament will be a rematch with Prestonwood CC and will be held here at the Hills Course on Wednesday, April 29. The formats for the tournament will be a 12-player match play and a 4-man team Better Ball. If you would like to play, please sign up in the SMGA Green Binder locate in the Hills Pro Shop. When you sign up, indicate on the sign up sheet if you would like to play in the match play or 4-man team format. Don Holec will be sending more information to you as we get closer to the date. Next Wednesday’s (April 15) Tournament Next Wednesday’s tournament is a Dinosaurs format. This is an individual game. Flights and foursome will be match by age. Age groups will be determined once everyone has signed up to play. Generally, there will be four age groups. Sign up in the SMGA Green binder in the Hills Pro Shop before Monday at 5:00pm or call the Pro Shop to add your name to the list. Read this Notice I will be out of town next week. So if you have any questions regarding next week’s tournament or the SMGA / RLGA Play Day, please direct them to Stan Chavez, sgtsgc@sbcglobal.net. Today’s Tournament For today’s tournament we tried something different – an experiment. The tournament was a two-man team event with AB and CD flights. Today foursomes were paired AB / AB and CD / CD. Then we had AB foursomes alternated with CD foursomes. We did this as an experiment so that everyone in the foursome could play with players in their flight. I was initially concerned that this arrangement could impact the pace of play. After I completed my round, I had some misgivings as the foursome behind us was nowhere in sight. However, by the end of play, every foursome had completed their round in 4-1/2 hours. Everyone seemed to enjoy the pairings. Therefore, we will continue the arrangement when the tournament format lends itself to his type of grouping – generally two-man team events.
