12-16-09  I saw a lot of smiles today, maybe more than normal for our Wednesday tourneys.  Was it the great scores and there were some?  Was it the strength from only playing 9 holes for a couple of hours?  Was it the Christmas golf balls we got from John "Santa Claus" Kinney that some of you already lost again? Was it the great meal we had from the club and I saw some empty plates?  I think it was the great fun just being together to celebrate our fun this time of year.  During Christmas, the family time is always special and I guess we enjoyed our SMGA family today.  Thanks again for the outstanding turnout and for all the support we get from the The Hills staff.  Here are the results of our nine hole tourney:

1st Place - Don Holec, Ken Carithers, Bill Uhlemann, Bob Williams - 59-

2nd Place - Don Weiland, Alan Cohen, George Belcher, John Greathouse - 60-$18 each
3rd Place - Richard Slough, Roger Sachar, Ned Pierron, Herbert Blase- 60 -$12 each

Closest To The Pin Contest:
($22 each)
Hole 11  Ken Carithers    11'-4"
Hole 15 Mike Maus         4'  - 1 1/2"

A special congratulations goes out to Ken Carithers who shot a one under 35 for nine holes.  I wonder why Don Holec's team won.  I have placed the January sign up lists in the SMGA Green Binder in the Golf Shop.  We will start back January 6 with a new format called Whack and Hack.  This is a four man team format recording the low and the high net scores unless you have one net birdie which you can trade the 2nd lower net for the high net.  Confused?  We will have Frank Stark, spokesman for Texas A&M, explain it to you.

Have a great time with the family and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  See you in 2010!
