6-27-08 Gentlemen, I am proud to be associated with the members of the SMGA!!!! I received a call this afternoon from our longtime member Jim Wilson who indicated to me that he was NOT in fact the winner of the 4th Flight on Wednesday and there must have been a mistake in the scoring. After another audit of scorecards we determined that the computer had a glitch and some scores were not computed properly in the 4th Flight only. So here are the 4th Flight winners again!!! 4TH FLIGHT: 1. BOB DONLEY 52 POINTS $25.75 2. DICK SCHLOUGH 46 POINTS $15.25 3. JIM WILSON 40 POINTS SCP $10.25 Jim Wilson beat Bill Uhlemann and Hugh Long in a scorecard playoff. Thanks to all of you participants and to the winners and losers for being so honest and truthful. The Golf Shop has made the corrections to your shop credit account but it wouldn't be a bad idea to check your totals next time you are in the Golf Shop.
6-26-08 Gentlemen, A random audit of yesterday's
scorecards was initiated by your SMGA Board and it was
discovered that a scoring error was made in the 3rd
Flight. Terry Welter was announced as the 3rd place
winner which in fact was incorrect. The correct 3rd place
winner in the 3rd Flight is Richard Schlough with 46
points. Richard will have $10.25 added to his Shop Credit
Account and Terry will have yesterday's credit removed.
I'm sorry about the confusion but Terry was short of
Richards total by a substantial margin. Please make
sure when you turn in your cards that they are signed,
dated, complete and correct. See you all next week.

6-25-08 Gentlemen, It has again been brought to my attention that some of us are becoming lax again and not making an effort to play at a faster pace. It is that time again to
revisit our "Pace of Play" activity. Please read and
reread the below hints to help you out in keeping up with
the group in front of you. We
have had numerous members stop playing with us because it
is taking more than 41/2 to 5 hours to
complete a round. We are
looking closely at several members who are chronic slow
players and we (The Board) will identify them
and if they do not improve
they will be placed at the tail end of the tournament
every Wednesday until they improve their pace of play.
I will not point fingers at
anyone nor will I embarrass you via these emails, although
several members have asked that I identify you and
maybe it will make you move a
bit faster. YOU know who you are so it isn't necessary to
speak to you. I'm sure you have heard the
whispers and the rumors and
I'm sure you didn't think that it was YOU that was talked
about. We do not, at this time, want to institute
any "Penalty Strokes" for slow
play, but the Board has discussed this procedure and it is
looking like we may need to do that if our pace
of play does not improve. We
will make sure that the proper groups get penalized not
the one's stuck behind a slow group. Now for the
Hints and
Winners:
HINTS FOR FAST
PLAY:
1. HONORS:
The time tested method is
to allow the individual with the lowest score on the
preceding hole(s) to hit first.
This often times puts the
longest hitter up first, forcing him to wait longer than
one of the shorter hitters.
Play is speeded up if
shorter hitters hit first. Carry an extra golf ball in
your pocket, in case you need to hit
a "provisional" ball.
PLAY READY GOLF!!
2. FAIRWAY:
The rules have been
changed to allow hitting from different area in the
fairway regardless of who is "away".
This improves the speed
of play. Drop off your cart passenger at his ball, then
drive to your ball. Limit lost
ball searches to 5
minutes. PLAY READY GOLF!!
3. PUTTING
SURFACES:
While waiting your turn,
line up your putt. DO NOT mark 1', 2' or 3' putts if you
are not going to step on someones
line. Continue putting
out if you are not in anyone's way!!! Place your clubs
between the green and the next tee,
(carts too). After
putting out proceed to the next tee and be prepared to tee
off, DON"T wait for everyone to putt out.
PLAY READY
GOLF!!
4. KEEP UP WITH
THE GROUP AHEAD OF YOU:
If you have just finished
putting and your group is lagging behind, you can proceed
to the next tee and tee off.
Mark your score on the
way to to the next tee. LIMIT PRACTICE SWINGS AND
SETUP TIME BEFORE
HITTING YOUR
SHOT. Limit your practice swings to one a shot, not 3 or
4!!! This also includes
swings on
your putts!!!! If each player in a foursome
saves only 5 seconds per shot, each round of golf would
be shortened by
30 MINUTES !!!!! .
PLAY READY
GOLF!!
5. REMEMBER:
Good "Ole" Satchel Paige
said, "Don't look back someone may be gaining on you"
Applied to golfers this means,
"It doesn't matter if the
group BEHIND you isn't pushing you keep up with the group
in FRONT OF YOU!!!!
Our tournaments can be fun and
enjoyable if everyone keeps up with the group ahead of
them. A 5 hour round may
be enjoyable to you but it
isn't to the groups behind you. NO ONE should play in
more than 41/2 hours!!!!. Lets all try
to complete our rounds in 4
hours or less. Don't forget, WE ARE NOT playing in the
U.S OPEN, it's only an SMGA
tournament. Now for the
