The
Senior Golfer by Marion Holec
Once
you were called a young man;
You
were full of ambition and you pursued your dreams.
College, marriage, family and work kept you busy
But
the dream of becoming a golfer beckoned each year.
One
day you picked up a club and took a few swings
“Not
a bad start” you said to yourself;
Off
to the golf course you went.
The
pro gave you a few lessons and pointers
And
soon the practice range became your best friend.
Emboldened by your progress
And
with 3 other guys a foursome was off for a round.
You
drove with confidence
Some
hits earned a hurrah and others a groan,
But
at the end of the round you were hooked on the game.
The
years sped by and the game was an object of joy;
Friends were made, tournaments played, and
Memories of past feats were discussed at the 19th
hole.
As
you looked around you saw younger men competing with
you.
On
their lips you heard, “you are my inspiration” and “when
I am your age I will want to be able to golf like you”.
So to
you senior golfers we tip our hats, and say thank you
for being our role model and our inspiration.
